Firespike and Hummingbird

I have a plant called Firespike in my backyard, which is a tropical flowering plant.  Odontonema strictum is its official name.  The flower looks very pretty under the sun, either in the early morning or later in the afternoon, especially when there are some “green” nearby.  The best part, which I learned afterwards, is that it attracts hummingbirds. If you like to see hummingbirds, I strongly recommend this plant to you.

Iceberg Rose after the rain

I took this shot right after the heavy rain. I liked the rain drops around the rose. Unfortunately, there was no sunlight. But it's still lovely.

Woohoo!!! Let the fun begin!!!

At the moment I saw two birds flying over, I aimed my camera to them but didn't realize the camera was set at single shot. So, I was only able to take one shot before the birds dispear from my view.  Then, when checking the image I got, I couldn't help laughing.

Rose blooming in my garden

This lovely rose was full blooming during the weekend. And I think I captured its beauty.  It's just lovely.

Beautiful Sunset

I love sunset! During this past weekend, I went to Everglades again and hoped to catch that magic view.  When I got there, I saw a dozen of people standing there and waiting for the best view to come.  Even it was not a splendid, I captured the moment I liked.

Hey kid, where are you going?

This past weekend, I saw twp white ibises walking along side of a pond in the community.  The one with all white feather is an adult ibis, and the one with light brown is a juvenile. I guess they are family. After digging in the water for a while, the kid suddenly took off. With no hesitation, the parent took off too and followed...It looks familiar, especially for the ones with little kids at home.

Full Moon

February 22nd is the full moon. The full moon in February also has a special name, Full Snow Moon, since February usually gets more snow than other months. Since the sky had lots of clouds, the surface of the moon was not that crispy clear (in comparison with my another post several days ago).

A shining moon in the purple and blue sky

While waiting for a magic moment before the sunset, I looked back inadvertently and saw this stunning moment I had never seen before. The lower portion of the sky was still blue; the upper portion was light purple; and there was a bright, shining moon.

Would you dance with me?

A great egret was inviting a snowy egret for a dance... Have a nice weekend!

A Shining Moon in the Blue Sky

Right before the sunset, I suddenly saw the moon hanging high in the blue sky. It was so beautiful, so pure, like a gem. The capture is not that sharp since I did not use a tripod. I will definitely use the tripod next time when I see it.

Moon Shot

Yesterday night after 10:30 pm, when I was outside, I noticed a beautiful moon shining in the clear sky. I was curious if I could take a shot of this waxing gibbous moon. I tried, failed, tried, failed again, but I felt I was getting better. After trying 50+ times, I finally got it -- I was so excited when seeing it from my computer.  Here it is.

Tricolored Heron

I am very happy and feel very lucky that I get to see different birds almost everyday recently. For the 3rd shot, don't you think this Tricolored Heron is singing, "Hello, it's me"?

Snowy Egret and Anhinga (aka Snakebird)

This morning, two special guests arrived at my backyard, a snowy egret and a snakebird. The snakebird was drying its wet wings. In the 3rd picture, the snakebird looks like saying, "Be quite! Don't you see I am busy drying my wings!" Enjoy.

Beautiful Butterfly

When going on a vacation at Key West before the Christmas, we visited Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory. Before going in, we were not quite sure why it was rated as #1 thing to do in Key West. There were so many beautiful butterflies and lovely birds. It was my first time to shoot butterflies and it was not quite easy. But fortunately, I got one that I liked. Here it is.

Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone National Park

This is one of my favorite pictures I took at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone National Park back in 2011.

Egret

An egret visited my backyard yesterday, standing quite for a bit before taking off.

Moon shining on the beach

During the winter break in December, we spent a couple of hours on Ft. Lauderdale beach. After the sunset, I noticed the moon was shinning in the sky. When it's getting dark, the lights on the ships came to the picture. What a beautiful evening on the beach!

Sunset, Sunset, Sunset!

This past Monday, I left the office around 5:30 pm. I was immediately attracted to the clouds in the sky, the pattern and light when I walked out the building. I said to myself, maybe I should bring my camera to work everyday so I would not miss this. Now, the only I could do was to enjoy the sky on the way home since it changed constantly during the sunset. When I got home, grabbed the camera, and drove to a place where I could have a better view, the sky was not the same anymore. But I was happy about what I could get (the first photo). Two days later, I was able to go to the same place 10 minutes before the sunset.  Even the view was not as stunning as seen on Monday (the second photo), I still enjoyed it.

Beautiful Sunset at Key West

We traveled to Key West before the Christmas and went on a parasailing tour before the sunset. That's was one of the best experiences we have ever had. While on the boat or parasailing 600 feet in the air, we got to see such a beautiful sunset with nothing to block this stunning view!

Grey Heron on a foggy morning

On a foggy morning in January, I saw a grey heron walking near the water in my backyard. I rushed and grabbed my camera and she was still there. I was happy for being able to take several shots.
